500 Scouts take to the water at Luton Hoo

Date: 14th May 2017 Author: Gerald Law
First Luton Sea Scout’s water activity days drew to a glorious finale in May as the sun shone on their first water activity day of the year.

Over 500 young people aged between 6 and 18 were given the opportunity to try their hand at sailing, kayaking, canoeing, pulling and rafting. All members of the Scout Association from across Luton and as far afield as Bedford had a great day out. Everyone of them had a different story to tell their parents whether it was dipping their head in the water whilst sailing, building a raft that got them across the lake or capsizing their canoe.

Located at Luton Hoo, First Luton’s boathouse is their summer home with use of the 50-acre lake all year round training courses can be run through the winter months.

Phil Jeffery, the event organiser commented how, after all the hard work involved behind the scenes, the look on the young people’s faces at the end of the day made it all worthwhile. “I would like to thank all the scout leaders who give up their weekends to make these days work. It would not happen without you.”
