Co Op £12K Cheque adds up to New Camping Gear for Luton Scouts
Co Op Store Managers Matt Carrington and Jackie Power presented a cheque for £12,643.40 to Strathmore (Blue Foxes) Scout Group on Saturday the 24th November outside the Co Op in Market Square, Farley Hill, Luton.
Co Op Store Manager Jackie Power expressed how important the Co Op felt that the fund went to worthy causes such as the scouts.
The money was raised from the Co Op community fund and was handed over to Scout Leader Pete Harry in pres-ence of the other Group Adult Leaders and young people aged 6 to 14 from the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts who will benefit from this gift in new tents, cooking equipment and many other items of traditional scout camping equip-ment.
Scout Leader Pete Harry said “It is not often we get the opportunity to upgrade our equipment with the current modern tents. Quality equipment is costly but we look to give our young people the very best possible experience. Camping is very traditional for scouts and gives the opportunity for young people from the group to stay in other locations. For some, this could prove to be the first time they spend a night away from home.
During the morning, a number of scouting skills, including First Aid, cooking marshmellows and knots, when asked what they felt about Scouting, “Magic” was the response from our Beaver Scouts and Cub Scouts.
During the interview of Scout Leader Debbie Else and District Commissioner Mark Webb by Co Op Photographer Louise Power, Mark explained how important to scouting support by the Co Op in Farley Hill has been. Debbie wanted to thank the Co Op and Co Op customers for their amazing generosity.
Katrina, a Strathmore Scout commented “I love camping and with new tents, we shall a great time, looking forward to getting away next year.

There are more than a dozen campsites near Luton and nearly 800 campsites across the UK that cater primarily (and in some cases exclusively) for Scouts and Scout Groups. These choices enable planning to be entirely based at an activity centre, or just want somewhere to pitch a tent as a starting point for walking, climbing or canoeing expeditions further afield, then this is the right place to look.
