Co Op Cheque for Leagrave Scouts Group
Co Op Store Manager John Wilkinson presented a cheque for £8976.28 to Leagrave Scout Group on Sunday, 17th November outside the Co Op Lewsey Farm, Luton.
John Wilkinson expressed how important the Co Op felt it was that the fund went to worthy causes such as Scouts.
The money, from the Co Op Community Fund, was handed over to Group Scout Leader John Rees in the presence of other Group Leaders and Young People aged 6 to 14 from Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, as well as Hydra Explorers who will benefit from this gift with a new trailer.
Scout Leader John Reed said “We would like to express our thanks to The Co Op staff and customers for supporting us so generously. This new trailer will help us handle our equipment and save money in costs when camping – savings which will go directly back to our young people. Of course, we hope other groups will benefit from this trailer as well.”.
Leagrave Scout Group is well known for its support in their community, clearing up memorials, riverbanks, music festivals, old peoples homes, the list is never ending.
The Scout Group has been supporting fundraising for the Co Op’s national charity “Mind”. A worthy cause for which the Co Op nationally has already raised over £17 million.
The Group has also applied for funding to help local abused families via another charity.
Scouting funds itself with membership fees, fundraising and grants which are used for the benefit of our young people and our volunteer adults regarding activities and training. But as Leagrave has proved, we do not just look to ourselves, we look to the community in which we live, to support when possible. This is part of our training, part of our belief. It is what we do.
