Falkes District carol service fills parish church with Scouts

Date: 2nd Dec 2016 Author: Gerald Law
A congregation of nearly 200 Scouts and friends filled St Mary’s Parish Church in Luton’s town centre for the first carol service of the newly-formed Falkes District Scouts. District Commissioner Mark Webb said, “What an impressive turnout! It shows how well the Districts have merged in just a few months.”

District Chairman Denise O’Hara with support from Liz Burnham organised the event which included bible readings of the Christmas story from 14 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Leaders. The carols ended with the old favourite ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas’ sung with great gusto by most of the Beavers and Cubs.
Two delighted leaders, Maria Dingle and Deborah Hopkins, were presented with five-year long service awards by Mark Webb who thanked them for all their hard work and wished them well for the future.

The collection at the service raised £150 which will be donated to the Keech Hospice.
