Date: 7th Feb 2020 Author: Gerald Law

Young people from Icknield District Beaver and Cub Scouts took part in the annual Board games competition at Sells 7th HQ. Organised by Adam Mitchell the event was a big success with a total of 5 groups from around the district taking part, Warden Hill, Blenheim, St Josephs, St Augustines and Sundon.
The afternoon went very smoothly with the Beavers (aged 6-8) taking part in Dominoes and Connect 4, whilst the cubs (aged 8-10) participated in Battleships and Chess, there were around 8 rounds, each time playing against a new opponent. Throughout the event they made friends and gained confidence, also having fun and the chance to show their competitiveness.
The judges included leaders from some of groups in the district, Libby Bassam the District Commissioner, Teresa Loughborough the local training manager and David Gilkinson the District Beaver leader. The event took 3 hours and after all the excitement of playing, they all took part in an exercise to help them get to know one another whilst waiting for the results.
The results were tallied during the event by Alan Southwell and Nick Jarman, when the time came for the results all went silent with anticipation and eagerness from the young people. The results were announced as follows; Dominoes won by Shea Raymond from St Josephs, Connact 4 by Liam Turner, Battleships Rohan Bodalia and Chess by Eashan Patel all 3 from Warden Hill, overall winning Beaver colony was St Josephs and overall winning Cub pack Warden Hill.
Before the parents collected the young people, David Gilkinson was presented an award for 40 years long service in Scouting which was an inspiration to the young people as well as leaders and young leaders.
One of the Beavers quoted “it was really fun” and was so determined they said “next year I will win!”, all the young people left brain fried but smiling. Libby thanked all the Leaders, district team, Young Leaders, Beavers and Cubs for giving up their time to make the event the success it was.
