Luton clergy kept busy by newly-named Scout Groups
Luton clergy have been working overtime recently blessing all the flags from newly-named Scout Groups in Falkes District. This week it was the turn of Someries Hill Scout Group who meet at Someries School. They chose Stopsley Parish Church for their blessing.
Last year, fifty years of Scouting history came to a close when Falkes District was formed from a merger of Lea Valley and Someries Districts and seven Groups from Someries District chose new names to replace their old identity numbers. They also chose new flags to replace the ones with their old names on them.
During the service of commemoration the Revd. David Alexander from St Thomas’s Church reminded the Scouts of the great historic tradition of Scouting that goes back over 100 years to a time when Stopsley was just a small village. He went on, “We receive these all these flags as symbols of a united world-wide family of Scouts. They continue to do good turns and to help people in many ways.”
Scout Megan Dodd aged 11 from Someries Hill Scout Group added, “We are very proud of our new flags and will be on parade with them on St George’s Day.”
Group Scout Leader Denise O’Hara whose flags were blessed said, “It was sad to see our old names disappear but all the Group chose the new name and we will remember this special day for a long time to come.”
