Luton Scout Wins Camp Wetaskiwin (Canada) Photo Competition

Date: 6th Mar 2020 Author: Gerald Law

As you may know, the Bedfordshire lions attended the World Scout Jamboree in the summer of 2019. We were a unit composed of 36 young people and 4 adult leaders, over two years prior to the event we got to know each other and became almost one big family.
As a part of the Jamboree experience we got a chance to travel to Canada, more specifically Ontario. This was the hosted hospitality part of the trip. We camped at Camp Wetaskiwin and where hosted by the local group, 57th St. Catherine’s Scout Group.
Shortly after departing Canada, the Camp Wetaskiwin Facebook page opened up a Photography competition. I had a few photos from my time there and thought to myself, why not submit a photo, I have nothing to lose!
I submitted my photo to the competition, expecting nothing to come from it, and was I wrong! I won first prize and ended up over 70 votes ahead of the next competitor.
Camp Wetaskiwin has just headed into its 75th year as an official Scouts Canada campsite. The prize (as pictured) is the 75th Anniversary badge set, framed!
It was a surprise to actually win the competition, and a very welcome one at that!
