Luton Scouts Brave Elements on the 2020 Founders Day Hike

The more than 50 Scouts from a number of Luton Scout Groups, young as 6, along with family members and leaders braved mud, rain and wind, celebrated Founders Day by hiking around Rushmere Country Park, Heath and Reach. An activity enjoyed by the whole family and leaders.
Founders Day is a celebration of Lord Baden-Powell’s birthday on the 22nd February 1857 who created the Scout Movement with a membership of nearly 54 million in 216 countries and terrorises around the world. Like the Commonwealth, the Sun never sets on Scouting.

Clare Duffy commented” muddy fun had by all. Nearly ducked out when we saw the weather this morning, but manned up. We enjoyed our 4 mile family hike round Rushmere today with the Luton/Falkes founders day hike. My Beaver son walked/ran it all with his friend from another scout group, through all the mud and we luckily missed the rain!”
A smiling Beaver Scout was hear expressing his delight, jumping in the puddles and getting stuck in the mud.
For a small fee, they were rewarded with fun and laughter, tired feet, gained badges and build on their training experience. The park was shared by other brave uses walking dogs, running and cycling. The money collected on the day will go towards the next World Scout Jamboree in 2023 which will be held in South Korea.
