Scouts Doorstep Remembrance

Date: 11th Nov 2020 Author: Gerald Law

Whilst the news was announcing that the new President of the USA, the Scouts of Luton were showing their respect for the men and women who have died during war in WW1, WW2 and through the years to modern times serving their country.

This year has proved difficult for society with lockdowns due to covid-19 which stop a lot face to face activities but Luton Scouts have found a way by showing respect for the 2 minutes silence on their door stops in uniform.

Young people including our newest Beaver Scout of 6, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Adults showed their respect on their front door steps or in their garden.

A Luton Spokesperson commented “ Scouting is part of it’s local community. Normally Scout Groups would attend remembrance services and memorials across Luton on Remembrance Sunday supporting their local communities.

Most of us were fortunate that our fathers and grandfathers returned from war but this gives us a chance to remember the main who never had the opportunity to be Fathers and Grand Fathers.”

Many will repeat their door step remembrance on the 11th Nov at 11am.

Scouting has a membership of over 50 million members in 216 countries, and so it is good that we keep up with important international news.

There have been five U.S. Presidents who were Scouts,  John F. Kennedy, Gerald Ford, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama which we now add the name Joe Biden.

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
