District Merger: Falkes and Icknield Scout Districts.

Luton & Flitwick District

1. Membership System Migration

This week, all groups and units will automatically migrate to the Luton & Flitwick District on our membership system.

For Group and Unit Members: You shouldn’t need to take any action for this transition to happen. However, if you experience any issues or notice anything unusual this week, please reach out to us.
For District Roles: Current district roles do not migrate automatically. This week, you will see your old district role close, but rest assured this will only happen after your new role has been created. If however, this doesn’t happen please do message me with your membership number and I’ll get things sorted
If we have not yet had a conversation about your new district role, please do get in touch, Roles from the existing districts will not automatically carry over.

Accreditations: Group-level accreditations should transfer across automatically. However, any district-level accreditations will need to be reactivated, and so also please watch out for that. If you go to do something and you no longer have control please shout and again I will solve acceditations
2. District Strategy & Upcoming Survey

Please see in this link (LF District Strategy – exec summary (Place to Belong template).pptx) are the slides I shared at our opening meeting, which articulate our current thinking regarding the district strategy going forward. Please note that this strategy is a living framework—it will evolve and adapt as we learn more about our new district and its needs.

With that in mind, please keep an eye out for an all-leaders survey arriving in your inbox very soon. This is the first of several surveys we plan to run across our membership to better understand what is working well and where we need to improve. It will only take about 5 minutes to complete, and hearing your voice is vital as we plan the path forward together.

3. District Leadership Team Updates

I am delighted to formally announce two key appointments to our District Leadership Team:

Teresa Loughbrough has agreed to take on the role of Volunteer Development Team Lead. Teresa previously served as the Icknield VDTL and, prior to that, our Districts Training Manager. She brings a long and dedicated history of supporting volunteers to get the best out of Scouting and ensuring they have the resources they need to succeed.
Lee Baker has stepped into the role of District Programme Team Lead. Many of you already know Lee from his work as the Falkes District Lead Volunteer. I am thrilled that Lee is bringing his extensive experience to bear in supporting our groups to deliver a fantastic programme for our young people.
Looking Ahead

Watch this space for several additional exciting initiatives rolling out soon to help support you in your roles as our incredible volunteers.

Thank you, as always, for your continued dedication, patience, and enthusiasm as we embark on this exciting next chapter for Scouting in our area.

Yours in Scouting,

Benjamin Summerfield
District Lead Volunteer (Luton & Flitwick)
