100-day countdown to the World Scout Jamboree for ten Luton Scouts
A record ten Luton Scouts are on the final 100-day countdown to the next World Scout Jamboree in America. 
On Monday, 22nd July they will be taking part in the razzamatazz of the opening ceremony with 40,000 other Scouts from around the world at the Summit Bechtel Scout Reserve in West Virginia, USA.

Spokesperson Stephen Avis said, “We’ve had two years to train for this and there’s a buzz every time we meet. One newcomer, Abigail Atkins, has just joined us to fill a vacancy but she’s catching up fast.”
The ten are Josh Sharp, Matthew Watson, Abigail Atkins, Devran Duran, Lucy O’Hare, Andrew Wilmer, Lily Hilts, Stephen Avis, Emily Baker and Ethan Oakley.
As part of a 36-strong Bedfordshire contingent, the ten will fly out from Heathrow to New York for a 
month-long event alongside Scouts from 169 countries. They will join in activities day and night in an area the size of Bedfordshire. Running alongside the site is the New River on its way to the might Mississippi. Despite its name, experts reckon it is one of the oldest rivers on the planet. It is just one natural playground for the Scouts to enjoy.
The Scouts expect to take part in Skills for Life projects involving science, environment, community and teamwork as well as action-packed climbing and exploring. They now have just four months to complete their preparations and then it’s off into the unknown.

Over the course of the Jamboree our Scouts will be able to meet people from around the world, take part in amazing adventures and experiences, learn new skills and be challenged to think about global issues in a new light.
