They weighed butterflies!

Date: 30th Sep 2016 Author: Gerald Law
Cubs celebrated their 100th birthday at Whipsnade Zoo by weighing butterflies.

This was just one of many exciting activities at the wildest birthday party ever to announce a century of Cub Scouting.

They fed giraffes, watched sea lions race under water and made a beeline for the big cats. They now know how elephants trumpet, the noise a camel makes and what snakes do when they are angry. They hoped to learn a new language from the parrots but all they did was squawk.

Greg Grineviciute aged nine from Luton said, “It was brilliant.” He was also spotted having a great time with his friends.

Hundreds of Cubs came from all over Bedfordshire to take part including a pack from Leagrave and others from nearby villages.

Chief Scout Bear Grylls saluted the Scout volunteers who gave up their weekend to make it happen and the staff at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo who put on such an imaginative show. Who could believe that they actually weighed butterflies and insects at their annual check-up.

Bear said, “This is a fantastic way for the Cubs to celebrate their 100th birthday in style. I want to thank all the inspiring volunteers for making it all happen.”
