Falkes District Explorers and Network Take on Kandersteg Adventure

Date: 22nd Aug 2025 Author: Gerald Law

This August, Explorers Scouts and Scout Network Members from Falkes District (Luton), set off on a thrilling alpine adventure to the Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC) in Switzerland — and what a trip it was! Packed with excitement, breathtaking views, and a signature dance routine, the group made memories to last a lifetime.

One of the highlights of the trip was the exhilarating alpine coaster. With the wind in their hair and the Swiss mountains as their backdrop, Explorer Scouts and Scout Network members whizzed down the winding track, grinning from ear to ear. Laughter filled the air as they raced each other down the slopes, fully embracing the speed and thrill of this unique alpine experience.

Another unforgettable moment came during their visit to Lake Oeschinensee. After a scenic gondola ride up the mountainside, the group arrived at the stunning lake, its deep blue waters nestled between towering peaks. Surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery Switzerland has to offer, they took time to soak in the view — but not before breaking into their now-traditional *Cotton Eye Joe* dance on the lakeshore. Tourists and fellow Scouts alike stopped to watch and join in, adding to the fun.

Of course, no trip to Kandersteg would be complete without exploring the stunning hiking trails around the campsite. The group took on several scenic walks, winding their way through alpine meadows and forested paths. Whether climbing to get a better view of the valley or simply enjoying the peacefulness of nature, each hike brought something new — and at every stop, like clockwork, the *Cotton Eye Joe* dance made an appearance. From mountaintops to meadows, the infectious energy of the dance followed them everywhere.

Throughout the trip, spirits were sky-high. From the gondola rides and high-speed coasters to the scenic hikes and spontaneous dance sessions, Falkes District Explorer Scouts and Scout Network Members embraced every moment with enthusiasm and laughter. Their journey wasn’t just about the activities — it was about friendship, shared adventure, and finding joy in the little things (like dancing in hiking boots at altitude).

By the end of the week, one thing was clear: whether flying down a track or grooving by a lakeside, Falkes District Scouts knew how to have serious fun in the mountains.
