Luton Scout Earns Top Adult Award- The Silver Wolf

Gerald Law, who currently holds the position of ‘Chairperson’ for Falkes District Scouts, has earnt his Silver Wolf, the highest good service award available to volunteers in the Scout Association. The award is described by the Scout Association as “the unrestricted award of the Chief Scout [Dwayne Fields]” and is “awarded for service of a most exceptional nature”. Gerald was surprised with the award at the districts Annual General Meeting on the 10th June 2026.
Gerald’s scouting journey started in 1962 with 2nd St. Albans Scout Group, joining as a Cub Scout, before moving up to the Scout section, where he would remain between 1964 and 1969. Some time in the Air Cadets in 1969 lead to him joining the Royal Air Force, which he subsequently left in 1977. He went on to rejoin 2nd St. Albans as a Scout Section Leader upon request of their Chairperson, his father. Gerald spent five years as a Scout Leader before undertaking a selection of roles over the next 40 years, notably ‘District Commissioner’ of the since-closed Lea Valley district, ‘Group Scout Leader’ of Lea Scout Group, ‘Parade Marshal (St. Georges Day)’ and ‘Media Manager’ of Luton Scouting all before becoming ‘Falkes District Chair’ in 2021- all this amongst a series of town and group based roles!
As Gerald approaches his 50th year of service, the Falkes District team wished to impart their thanks for the exceptional service, Gerald has provided to countless individuals, both young person and volunteers, during his devoted time with the Scout Association. District Lead Volunteer for Falkes, Lee Baker, said, “It gave me great pleasure to award Gerald with the Silver Wolf, I cannot think of anyone else more deserving of it. Despite facing adversity, he carried the district when we had no District Lead Volunteer and supported me immensely when I took on the role. He is now a few months away from having done 50 years of service to Scouting, covering nearly every different role”.
Upon receipt of the award Gerald said, “To receive scouting highest award for service is such a privilege. I was shocked. Scouting is very much about Adult Leaders working with our young people and each other. Seeing young people develop and gain confidence is very rewarding. I have been supported by many adults over the years to which I am eternally grateful”.
