Duke of Edinburgh Awards Presentation

Three Luton Explorer Scouts have spent the last year working toward their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze (DofE)award.
Billie Gray, Griffin Chambers and Charlie Loxley were presented their awards by their District Commissioner Mrs. Libby Bassam.
They have all worked very hard throughout the year , the DofE award is a designed to be a challenge and to promote teamwork and learning skills for life. Participants are required to complete 4 sections a skill, a physical, a voluntary 2 for 3 months and the 3rd for 6 months and finally an expedition.
They have all committed to helping as young leaders with Warden Hill scout group assisting the leadership teams to deliver a balanced program to their younger members. Kayaking & Canoeing were chosen as their skill and they spent every Friday evening throughout the summer improving their skills with Riparian explorers where they are all members.
For the skill part of this award they learnt to shoot air-rifles and in the process gained valuable skill in leadership and self discipline.
The hardest part of the award is a 2 day 1 night expedition to be undertaken un-aided i.e. no adult supervision, this means carrying everything needed for camping tent, sleeping bag etc and including food and then cooking for themselves using a stove that was also carried.
Libby commented how proud she was to be presenting the first DofE awards within Icknield for many years, and how she looked forward to presenting many more including the remainder of this group when they have completed all their sections.
