Generous Phoenix Explorers help 10,000 Luton homeless

Generous Explorer Scouts from Falkes District used funds raised during a half marathon to help 10,000 homeless in Luton.

Charity workers from Mary Seacole homes reckon there are over 10,000 homeless people in Luton who need their services. So they were particularly grateful when Explorer Scouts from the Phoenix Unit in Bodmin Road donated £400 to help their cause. The funds were raised during a sponsored half marathon the Explorer Scouts and their leaders ran earlier this year.

Elaine Cruise marketing manager of the local charity said, “I am so grateful for all the support the Scouts give. There is still an awful lot to do for the six hostels we run in the town and I know the teenagers are keen to make a difference.” Many of the 14 Explorers she met took a keen interest in the work done by the charity and vowed to continue their support.

Explorer Scout Leader Clover Heather said, “We are delighted to help the work of this important charity and make some difference to the lives of 10,000 homeless in the area. We had no idea there were so many.”

Elaine Cruise plucked her cheque for £400 from Explorer Scout Nathan Sanders in a light hearted moment during the evening.
