Luton Shoppers Entertained

Date: 19th Apr 2016 Author: Scout Websites
Hundreds of Luton shoppers got more than they bargained for one weekend in The Mall.

They were entertained by Tina’s Ballet Dancers, encouraged to play on psychedelic pianos and given a chance to shine at archery with Luton Scouts.

This was a hands-on experience with a difference. The Scouts set up an enclosed archery butt in Smith’s Square and invited would-be Robin Hoods to try their hand at knocking down coke cans with rubber arrows and crossbows. The noise of youngsters enjoying shooting practice brought over 100 to the stand during the day.

For many, this was their first taste of the adventurous activities the Scouts enjoy at their weekly meetings. Cub Scout Leader Cathy Stapleton said, “We had a stream of people from six year olds to pensioners wanting to try their luck. They couldn’t believe the huge range of other activities we offered from outdoor events to cooking and first aid and computing skills.”

Organiser Gerald Law added, “This is the first of many exhibitions we will be staging to show Luton what exciting opportunities hundreds of Scouts enjoy at groups all over the town. Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from Leagrave Scout Group encouraged passers-by to try their hand at target practice and made it all seem so easy.”

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
